Recall 16V771000 · manufacturer campaign 16E-066

Equipment — East · reported 24 Oct 2016 · 20 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

East Manufacturing Corp. (East) is recalling certain model year 2016 Beast II flatbed trailers manufactured May 22, 2015, to June 19, 2015, equipped with certain Conestoga XP sliding trailer tarping systems with RAD-style rear closures. In the affected trailers, the rear aerodynamic device (RAD) may separate from the rear of the tarping system, due to rivet failure.

The risk

If the RAD detaches from the trailer it may be a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

East will notify owners, and dealers will replace the mounting rivets with a bolted connection, free of charge. The recall began on September 6, 2016. Owners may contact East customer service at 1-330-325-9921. East's number for this recall is 16E-066.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
