Structure › Frame And Members — BMW · reported 14 Aug 2017 · 3,368 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2014-2017 R NINE T motorcycles. The bolts that connect the right-side swingarm pivot pin to the frame may loosen.
The risk
If the right-side pivot pin loosens, the handling and stability of the motorcycle may be affected, increase the risk of a crash.
The fix
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will remove the pivot pin bolts, clean, and re-install them with the proper torque after applying a thread locking adhesive, free of charge. The recall began October 16, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or by email at [email protected].
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
