Recall 18V155000 · manufacturer campaign R18-002

Power Train › Driveline › Driveshaft — New Flyer · reported 7 Mar 2018 · 979 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

New Flyer of America Inc. (New Flyer) is recalling certain 2016-2018 XDE40 and XDE60 and 2017 XDE35 Heavy Duty Urban Transit buses. The plastic end-caps of the drive shaft slip yoke may crack and fail.

The risk

Failure of the drive shaft end-caps would result in a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

New Flyer will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive shaft slip yoke, replacing any drive shaft that has plastic end-caps on the slip yoke, free of charge. The recall began on March 22, 2018. Owners may contact New Flyer customer service at 1-204-224-6706. New Flyer's number for this recall is R18-002.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
