What's wrong

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2019 Forest River Palomino hardside truck campers. The Federal Placard incorrectly states the dry weight as 1,591lbs, when the correct dry weight is 2,405lbs. This error may result in the vehicle being overloaded.

The risk

An overloaded vehicle may have reduced handling performance, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Forest River has notified owners, and dealers will replace the incorrect Federal Placard with a corrected Placard, free of charge. The recall began on July 23, 2018. Owners may contact Palomino customer service at 1-269-432-3246. Forest River's number for this recall is 400-0783.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
