Recall 18V615000 · manufacturer campaign R18-014

Power Train › Automatic Transmission — New Flyer · reported 12 Sep 2018 · 386 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

New Flyer of America Inc. (New Flyer) is recalling certain 2016-2018 New Flyer XDE60, XDE40, and 2017 XDE35 transit buses, equipped with certain Allison transmission hybrid drive units. The pressure switches on these drive units may fail, possibly resulting in a loss of drive.

The risk

A loss of drive can disable the vehicle unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

New Flyer will notify owners, and Allison Transmission service centers will replace the C1 and C2 pressure switches, free of charge. The recall began on September 25, 2018. Owners may contact New Flyer customer service at 1-204-224-6706. New Flyer's number for this recall is R18-014.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
