Recall 19V073000

Exterior Lighting › Brake Lights — Lifeline · reported 31 Jan 2019 · 200 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Life Line Emergency Vehicles (Life Line) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Type I and Type III ambulances built on Ford F-Series, Ford E-Series, Freightliner, Chevrolet Cutaway G-Series, Dodge Chassis Cab, Navistar and Kenworth chassis, equipped with Whelen accessory brake lights. Depending on the specific wiring of the vehicle, the brake lights may falsely illuminate even without the brake pedal being pressed.

The risk

If the brake lights falsely illuminate, other drivers could become confused, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Life Line will notify owners, and dealers will replace the lights, free of charge. The recall began May 1, 2019. Owners may contact Life Line customer service at 1-563-578-3317, extension 132.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
