Recall 20V564000 · manufacturer campaign 3AW (WMI)
Structure › Body › Bumpers — Fruehauf · reported 18 Sep 2020 · 70 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Fruehauf De Mexico SA DE CV (Fruehauf) is recalling certain 2018-2019 FB 53 68,000 lbs GVWR trailers. A bumper reinforcement gusset was mistakenly omitted. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 223, "Rear Impact Guards" and 224, "Rear Impact Protection."
The risk
If the gusset is missing, a passenger car may go under the trailer during a rear impact crash, increasing the risk of injury to passenger(s).
The fix
Fruehauf will notify owners, and dealers will install the bumper gusset, free of charge. The recall began January 10, 2021. Owners may contact Fruehauf customer service at 52-55-5898-7800 (International). Fruehauf's number for this recall is 3AW (WMI).
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
