Steering › Column — Spartan · reported 25 Mar 2021 · 37 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Shyft Group is recalling certain 2021-2022 Spartan RV Chassis K1, K2, K3, and K4 vehicles. The steering output shaft inside the steering column may be too short and could disengage from the steering input shaft.

The risk

Disengagement of the steering output shaft could result in a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Shyft Group will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary, replace the steering column, free of charge. The recall began on March 31, 2021. Owners may contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-582-3454. Shyft Group's number for this recall is 21-07.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
