Recall 21V532000 · manufacturer campaign R21-013
Engine And Engine Cooling › Exhaust System › Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe — New Flyer · reported 14 Jul 2021 · 28 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
New Flyer of America, Inc. (New Flyer) is recalling certain 2021 XD35 and XD40 vehicles equipped with 2021 Model Year Cummins L9 Diesel Engines. The engine calibration software's management of the injection of Diesel Exhaust Fluid can allow excessive ammonia to be emitted from tailpipe exhaust.
The risk
Exposure to high levels of ammonia can increase the risk of injury.
The fix
Cummins will recalibrate the engine, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 23, 2021. Owners may contact New Flyer's customer service at 1-800-204-224-6706. New Flyer's number for this recall is R21-013.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
