Recall 21V573000 · manufacturer campaign SC0427

Service Brakes, Air — Mack · reported 27 Jul 2021 · 124 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2021 Granite, LR, and TerraPro vehicles. The rear drive axle may have the incorrect type of brake cam installed, which could result in inoperative rear axle brakes.

The risk

Inoperative rear axle brakes can increase the distance required to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Dealers will inspect the brake cams, and incorrect brake cams will be replaced, along with brake shoes, hardware, and wheel seals, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 10, 2021. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0427.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
