What's wrong

Custom Fire Apparatus, Inc. (Custom Fire) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Spartan Gladiator and Metrostar emergency vehicles. Pressure may build in the power steering pump and break the shaft seal, resulting in a loss of power steering assist.

The risk

A loss of power steering assist may increase the risk of a crash.

The fix

Spartan will remove and replace the power steering pump, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Custom Fire's customer service at 1-715-294-2555.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
