What's wrong

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Star Trans school buses. The rear emergency exit window labels are not in the correct location and only provide instructions for one release mechanism, instead of two release mechanisms. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."

The risk

In an emergency, the incorrect window label instructions may prevent or delay the use of the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.

The fix

Dealers will install new labels on the rear emergency exit windows, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 22, 2022. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-800-348-7440. Forest River's number for this recall is 05-0171.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
