Recall 22V049000 · manufacturer campaign R22BP
Equipment Adaptive/mobility › Wheelchair Lift/ramp — Blue Bird · reported 2 Feb 2022 · 6 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Blue Bird Body Company (Blue Bird) is recalling certain 2023 Vision school buses. The vehicle multiplex software may not engage the brakes when the wheelchair platform lift is operated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."
The risk
Disengaged brakes can allow the school bus to move while the platform lift is in operation, increasing the risk of injury.
The fix
Dealers will install updated software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 17, 2022. Owners may contact Blue Bird's customer service at 1-478-822-2242. Blue Bird's number for this recall is R22BP.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
