Structure › Body — Western Star · reported 7 Apr 2022 · 2,284 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Western Star 47X, 2020-2023 Western Star 49X, and 2021-2022 Western Star 57X vehicles equipped with side air intakes on the hood. The stainless steel cover on the side air intake may loosen and detach from the vehicle.

The risk

A detached side air intake cover may cause a road hazard and increase the risk of a crash.

The fix

Dealers will replace the stainless steel cover, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 8, 2022. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-925.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
