Recall 24V013000 · manufacturer campaign FL992
Parking Brake — Western Star · reported 10 Jan 2024 · 149 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2023 Western Star 4900 and Western Star 6900 vehicles. A defect in the inversion valve may delay park brake engagement, which could allow the vehicle to move unintentionally. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."
The risk
Unintentional vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
The fix
DTNA will inspect and replace the inversion valves, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 27, 2024. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL992.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
