What's wrong

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Western Star 49X vehicles. The suspension hanger may fail due to missing welds, which can result in difficulty steering and maintaining the direction of the front two wheels.

The risk

Difficulty steering and a loss of directional control increases the risk of a crash.

The fix

DTNA will replace the suspension hanger, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 22, 2024. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is FL994.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
