Recall 24V233000 · manufacturer campaign 24PBF, 24KWF
Steering › Gear Box › Shaft Sector — Kenworth, Peterbilt · reported 27 Mar 2024 · 782 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2025 Peterbilt 536, 548, 567, 579, and Kenworth T280, T380, T480, T680, T880, and W990 vehicles. The steering gear sector shaft may have been improperly heat-treated, which can cause the gear teeth to crack or fracture.
The risk
Fractured steering gear teeth can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix
Dealers will inspect the serial numbers, and replace the steering gears as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 7, 2024. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888 and Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220. PACCAR's numbers for this recall are 24PBF and 24KWF.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
