Steering › Linkages › Tie Rod Assembly — Freightliner, Western Star · reported 3 Jul 2024 · 61 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2025 Freightliner Cascadia, 114SD, Western Star 47X, and 49X transit buses equipped with Composolite EXS20 steerable lift axle suspension assemblies. The tie rod assembly ball stud could have been improperly heat treated and can fail.

The risk

The ball stud can separate from the vehicle becoming a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Dealers will replace the tie rod assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 26, 2024. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is F1005.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
