Steering › Critical Fasteners — Gillig · reported 5 Jul 2024 · 1,189 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Gillig, LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Low Floor transit buses. The steering spline shaft fasteners may have been improperly tightened, allowing the steering spline shaft to loosen.

The risk

A loose steering shaft can cause a complete loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Gillig will tighten the fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 13, 2024. Owners may contact Gillig customer service at 1-510-264-5073 or 1-800-735-1500.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
