What's wrong

Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2022-2027 TerraPro trucks. The engine control unit (ECU) software may allow the engine to start when the transmission is not in Neutral. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect."

The risk

Starting the vehicle while in gear may cause unexpected vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

The fix

Dealers will update the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 14, 2026. Owners may contact Mack's customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0492. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov March 18, 2026.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
