Recall 78V078000
Vehicle Speed Control — Batavus · reported 11 Apr 1978 · 5,700 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
THE INVOLVED VEHICLES DO NOT CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 123, "MOTORCYCLE CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS". THESE VEHICLES WERE DELIVERED WITH FUEL SHUT-OFF VALVES WHICH DO NOT HAVE THE VALVE POSITIONS ("ON", "OFF" AND "REVERSE") PROPERLY LABELED. ALSO, CERTAIN VEHICLES MAY HAVE INCORRECTLY POSITIONED FUEL VALVES.
The fix
THE DEALER WILL REPOSITION THE FUEL CONTROL VALVE AND INSTALL LABELS TO MEET THE SAFETY STANDARD REQUIREMENTS.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOPEDS.SYSTEM: FUEL; FUEL SHUT OFF VALVE.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: THE RIDER COULD INADVERTENTLY SWITCH THE FUEL VALVEINTO AN INCORRECT POSITION, CAUSING AN UNEXPECTED TERMINATION OF FUEL SUPPLY TOTHE ENGINE. THIS WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STOP UNEXPECTEDLY, DISENGAGING THECLUTCH AUTOMATICALLY AND CAUSING THE MOPED TO FREEWHEEL ONWARDS INSTEAD OFBEING PROPELLED. THIS SUDDEN ALTERATION COULD CAUSE THE RIDER TO HAVE ANACCIDENT.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
