Recall 78V131000
Electrical System › 12v/24v/48v Battery › Cables — White Truck · reported 12 Jun 1978 · 278 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
THE GROUND WIRE FROM THE BATTERY GROUND ON THE ENGINE TO THE FRAME RAIL WAS OMITTED. THIS CONSTITUTES A NON-COMPLIANCE TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT" AND NO. 121, "AIR BRAKES". AN INTERMITTENT LOSS OF ELECTRICAL GROUND AND SUBSEQUENT DIMMING OF THE LIGHTING SYSTEM COMPONENTS OR A POSSIBLE FALSE INDICATION OF ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM FUNCTION IS THE CAUSE FOR THE NON-COMPLIANCE.
The fix
THE DEALER WILL INSTALL TWO GROUND CABLES FREE OF CHARGE ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCK TRACTORS.SYSTEM: ELECTRICAL; BATTERY CABLE.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: REDUCED VISIBILITY AND A FALSE INDICATION OF ANTI-LOCKSYSTEM FUNCTIONS COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
