Recall 78V227000
Service Brakes, Air › Disc › Chamber — Fruehauf · reported 17 Oct 1978 · 663 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
THE PISTON IN THE ANTILOCK VALVE COULD STICK DUE TO EXPOSURE TO HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF FLUID CONTAMINANTS THAT MAY COLLECT IN THE TRAILER BRAKING SYSTEM. CONSEQUENTLY, NO AIR WOULD BE DELIVERED TO THE BRAKE CHAMBERS NORMALLY SUPPLIED BY THIS VALVE. THIS WOULD RESULT IN A "NO BRAKE" CONDITION ON THE AFFECTED AXLE(S). THIS FAILURE WOULD CONSTITUTE A NON-COMPLIANCE TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS".
The fix
VEHICLE WILL BE INSPECTED AND, IF NECESSARY, ANTILOCK AIR VALVES WILL BE REPLACED WITHOUT CHARGE.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: FREIGHT AND TANK TRAILERS.SYSTEM: SERVICE BRAKES; ANTILOCK AIR VALVES.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLEACCIDENT.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
