Recall 78V231000
Service Brakes, Air › Disc › Chamber — Pike · reported 20 Oct 1978 · 560 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
THE PISTON IN THE ANTILOCK VALVE COULD STICK DUE TO EXPOSURE TO HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF FLUID CONTAMINANTS THAT MAY COLLECT IN THE TRAILER BRAKING SYSTEM. CONSEQUENTLY, NO AIR WOULD BE DELIVERED TO THE BRAKING CHAMBERS NORMALLY SUPPLIED BY THIS VALVE. THIS WOULD RESULT IN A "NO BRAKE" CONDITION ON THE AFFECTED AXLES. THIS FAILURE WOULD CONSTITUTE A NON-COMPLIANCE TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS".
The fix
THE SUSPECT VALVE WILL BE INSPECTED AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACED WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SEMI-TRAILERS AND CONVERTOR DOLLIES.SYSTEM: SERVICE BRAKES; ANTILOCK VALVE.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY, WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING,COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
