Recall 79V048000
Fuel System, Gasoline › Storage › Tank Assembly — Volvo · reported 13 Feb 1979 · 61,000 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
THE INVOLVED VEHICLES CONTAIN A POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE IN THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM WHICH, THROUGH EXCESS PRESSURE OVER EXTENDED PERIODS, COULD CAUSE METAL FATIGUE AND EVENTUALLY FUEL VAPORS TO BE EMITTED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE THROUGH HAIRLINE CRACKS IN THE FUEL TANK.
The fix
DEALER WILL INSPECT THE TANK AND MAKE REPLACEMENTS, IF NECESSARY. THE VALVE WILL BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE EMISSION AND SAFETY-RELATED PROBLEMS. CERTAIN VEHICLES WILL REQUIRE INSTALLATION OF A FILLER INLET FUEL TRAP AND A FEEDER PUMP TO ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY OF FUEL SURGE AND VAPOR LOCK.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES.SYSTEM: FUEL; FUEL TANK.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: THIS CONDITION CAN LEAD TO A FIRE HAZARD RESULTING IN AVEHICLE ACCIDENT AND SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
