Recall 79V059000
Parking Brake › Driveline › Air — Kenworth · reported 23 Feb 1979 · 2,620 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
THE PARKING BRAKE VALVES MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY PIPED. IF THE PARKING BRAKE PIPING IS INCORRECTLY ROUTED, THERE IS NO WAY TO SET THE TRACTOR PARKING BRAKES INDEPENDENTLY OF THE TRAILER PARKING BRAKES. THIS COULD CAUSE THE PARKING BRAKES TO BACK OFF WHILE THE TRAILER AIR SUPPLY IS BEING CHARGED, CAUSING THE TRACTOR TO ROLL.
The fix
TRAILER AIR SUPPLY WILL BE MOVED FROM THE DISCHARGE SIDE OF THE TRACTOR PARKING VALVE TO THE DISCHARGE SIDE OF THE COMBINATION PARKING VALVE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE DONE AT NO CHARGE.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCKS.SYSTEM: PARKING EMERGENCY BRAKES; AIR, VALVE, CONTROL.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IF THE TRACTOR AND TRAILER ROLL FREE, A VEHICLEACCIDENT AND PERSONAL INJURY MAY OCCUR.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
