Recall 80V120000
Service Brakes, Hydraulic › Foundation Components › Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings — Ford · reported 19 Sep 1980 · 10,000 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
CERTAIN VEHICLES WERE EQUIPPED WITH FRONT BRAKE HOSE ASSEMBLIES THAT WERE INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED BY THE SUPPLIER. THESE ASSEMBLIES, BOTH RH AND LH, WERE INCORRECTLY BUILT WITH THE FITTINGS MISORIENTED BY 90 DEGREES. THIS COULD CAUSE CHAFING OF THE BRAKE HOSE THROUGH CONTACT WITH THE ADJACENT TIRE DURING FULL TURNS. CONTINUED CHAFING COULD RESULT IN A BRAKE FLUID LEAK.
The fix
DEALER WILL INSPECT BOTH FRONT BRAKE HOSES AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE ONE OR BOTH HOSES AT NO CHARGE.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: VANS AND WAGONS.SYSTEM: SERVICE BRAKES; FRONT BRAKE HOSE ASSEMBLY.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID WILL CAUSE A LOSS OF FRONT WHEELBRAKING ACTION, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.NOTE: LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID MAY BE DETECTED BY ILLUMINATION OF THE BRAKE WARNINGLIGHT.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
