Recall 81V078000

Vehicle Speed Control — Coachmen · reported 26 Jun 1981 · 314 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

A PROTECTIVE METAL COVER WAS OMITTED FROM THE SPEED CONTROL UNIT. WITHOUT THIS COVER, A BEAD CHAIN WHICH CONNECTS THE THROTTLE LINKAGE TO THE SERVO ASSEMBLY COULD BECOME ENTANGLED IN THE LINKAGE OR OTHER ENGINE COMPONENTS. IF THE CHAIN BECOMES CAUGHT, IT COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE THROTTLE TO LOCK OPEN. A THROTTLE ARM WAS ALSO ACCIDENTLY OMITTED FROM THE SPEED CONTROL UNIT.

The fix

BOTH THE METAL COVER AND THE THROTTLE ARM WILL BE INSTALLED AT NO CHARGE TO OWNER.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORHOMES.SYSTEM: EQUIPMENT; SPEED CONTROL; METAL COVER AND THROTTLE ARM.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: AN OPEN THROTTLE WOULD MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO REDUCEVEHICLE SPEED. THIS FAILURE COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING AND COULD RESULTIN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.NOTE: THE SPEED CONTROL SHOULD NOT BE USED PRIOR TO INSPECTION AND REPAIR.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
