Recall 81V156000

Vehicle Speed Control › Springs — Western · reported 29 Dec 1981 · 186 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

THE THROTTLE RETURN SPRINGS ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES PROVIDE LESS THAN THE REQUIRED TORQUE, CAUSING A SLUGGISH RETURN OF THE THROTTLE TO THE IDLE POSITION AFTER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS RELEASED. THIS FAILS TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 124, "ACCELERATOR CONTROL SYSTEMS".

The fix

NEW ANCHOR BRACKETS AND SPRING EXTENSIONS FOR THE THROTTLE RETURN SPRINGS, WILL BE INSTALLED AT CORRECTED LOCATIONS WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCKS.SYSTEM: FUEL; THROTTLE RETURN SPRINGS.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: A FAILURE OF THE ACCELERATOR FUNCTION TO RESPONDNORMALLY COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IN CERTAIN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
