Recall 85V117000

Trailer Hitches — Alfa · reported 24 Sep 1985 · 820 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

PINBOXES WELDED TO THE HITCH OF THE 5TH WHEEL UNIT MAY BEND UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS WHERE MAXIMUM STRESS IS APPROACHED OR EXCEEDED, CAUSING THE KINGPIN TO BREAK. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: IF THE KINGPIN BREAKS FREE OF THE PINBOX, THE TRAILER COULD SLIDE OFF THE HITCH AND DAMAGE THE TOWING TRUCK OR MAY SEPARATE COMPLETELY FROM THE TOWING VEHICLE AND RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

The fix

REPAIR AND REINFORCE PINBOX AS NECESSARY.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRAVEL TRAILERS, 5TH WHEEL TYPE. SYSTEM: TRAILER HITCH, 5TH WHEEL.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
