Recall 85V167000
Trailer Hitches › Fifth Wheel Assembly — Grumman · reported 20 Dec 1985 · 218 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
THE REINFORCING PLATES WERE OMITTED FROM THE TRAILER PIN BOX ASSEMBLY, WHICH IS USED TO HOLD THE FIFTH WHEEL ASSEMBLY TO THE TRAILER. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: A FATIQUE FAILURE OFF THE PIN BOX ALLOW THE FIFTH WHEEL ASSEMBLY TO SEPARATE FROM THE TRAILER. THEREFORE, THE TRAILER WILL FALL OFF THE TOWING TRUCK AND ROLL UNCONTROLLED ON THE ROADWAY. THIS MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
The fix
REPLACE THE PIN BOX ASSEMBLY IF REINFORCEMENT PLATES ARE MISSING.
SYSTEM:REINFORCEMENT PLATES, FIFTH WHEEL. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION:FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS DESIGNED TO BE PULLED BEHIND A FORDF SERIES PICKUP TRUCK.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
