Recall 86V098000

Suspension › Rear › Axle › Non-powered Axle Assembly — Strick · reported 22 Jul 1986 · 527 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED IN SOME LOCKING PIN HOUSINGS WHICH LOCKS THE ADJUSTABLE TANDEM TRAILER AXLE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: CRACKS IN THE LOCKING PIN HOUSING COULD CAUSE IMPROPER LOCKING, AND THE SLIDING TANDEM MAY SEPARATE WITHOUT WARNING WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THIS COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

The fix

REPLACE THE TUBULAR PIN HOUSING WITH A HEAVY BLOCK AND HOUSING TO SUPPORT IT; ALSO INSTALL A REAR GUSSET BETWEEN TRAVEL STOP AND REAR BOLSTER.

SYSTEM: AXLE/LOCKING PIN HOUSING. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRAILERS 23 1/2 FT. CHASSIS WITH SLIDERS.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
