Recall 86V106000

Steering › Steering Wheel/handle Bar — Freightliner · reported 5 Aug 1986 · 78 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

STEERING COLUMN MOUNTING BOLTS MAY BE ABSENT, LEAVING ONLY THE KNEE PAD TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN IN PLACE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS, KNEE PAD ATTACHING BOLTS MAY NOT BE SUFFICIENT, ALLOWING THE STEERING COLUMN AND WHEEL TO COME LOOSE WHILE THE TRUCK IS BEING DRIVEN. THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.

The fix

INSTALL CLAMPS AND BOLTS, IF MISSING, OR CHECK EXISTING BOLTS FOR TIGHTNESS.

SYSTEM: STEERING COLUMN MOUNTING. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MEDIUM DUTY CONVENTIONAL TRUCKS.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
