Recall 91V043000

Service Brakes, Air — Kenworth · reported 14 Mar 1991 · 77 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

AIR BRAKE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED BY ADDING A LONGER AIR LINE BETWEEN THE ABS SOLENOID AND THE TRANSFER TEE TO SIMPLIFY MANUFACTURING. THIS MODIFICATION CAUSED THE TRUCKS TO BE IN NON-COMPLIANCE WITH FMVSS 121, BRAKE TIMING TEST.

The risk

THE MISTIMED BRAKE AND ABS SYSTEM MAY CAUSE THE TRUCK TOFAIL THE STOPPING DISTANCE REQUIREMENT OF THE FMVSS, WHICH MAY LEAD TO ANACCIDENT.

The fix

REMOVE THE EXTRA LENGTH OF AIR LINE AND INSTALL THE TRANSFER TEE AT THE ABS SOLENOID.

SYSTEM: AIR BRAKE SYSTEM AND ANTI-LOCK AIR BRAKES; FMVSS 121.VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCKS BUILT WITH AIRGLIDE 100 SUSPENSION AND BOSCH ABSBRAKE SYSTEM.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
