Recall 91V221000
Wheels › Lugs/nuts/bolts/studs — Oshkosh · reported 30 Dec 1991 · 42 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
THE WHEEL STUD USED FOR THE HUBS ON THE REAR-STEER WHEELS HAS A DIAMETER TOO SMALL TO HANDLE THE MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED TORQUE, AND WILL SUFFER FROM A FATIGUE FAILURE FROM THE CYCLIC STRESSES OF VEHICLE USE AND THE TORQUING OF THE WHEEL NUT.
The risk
FAILURE OF ONE WHEEL STUD CAN LEAD TO SUBSEQUENT FAILURESOF ALL THE STUDS ON THE HUB, LEADING TO SEPARATION OF THE WHEEL AND TIREASSEMBLY FROM A VEHICLE, RESULTING IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.
The fix
REPLACE THE WHEEL STUD WITH A NEWER, WIDER DIAMETER WHEEL STUD.
SYSTEM: WHEELS.VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY TRUCKS WITH REAR-STEER AXLES USED AS SNOW BLOWERS ORSNOW PLOWS.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
