Recall 93V055000

Structure › Body › Hatchback/liftgate — Jeep · reported 8 Apr 1993 · 80,000 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

GREASE APPLIED TO THE LIFTGATE LATCH RUBBER BUMPERS TO EASE COMPONENT ASSEMBLY CAUSED THE BUMPER TO SWELL, INTERFERING WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE LIFTGATE LATCH PAWL. THIS PREVENTS THE LIFTGATE LATCHING WHEN CLOSED AND DIFFICULT TO OPEN WHEN LATCHED.

The risk

AN UNLATCHED LIFTGATE CAN OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS INMOTION, AND COULD RESULT IN AN OCCUPANT FALLING OUT.

The fix

REPLACE THE LIFTGATE ASSEMBLY ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.

SYSTEM: STRUCTURE; LIFT GATE.VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: UTILITY VEHICLES; MODEL GRAND CHEROKEE AND GRAND WAGONEER.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
