Recall 93V134000
Electrical System › 12v/24v/48v Battery › Cables — BMW · reported 13 Aug 1993 · 772 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE CONNECTOR MAY BE ATTACHED TO THE POSITIVE TERMINAL EXTENSION AT AN ANGLE WHICH MAY CAUSE CONTACT BETWEEN THE CONNECTOR AND THE BATTERY SUPPORT CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL SHORT.
The risk
IF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT EXISTS, ELECTRICAL CURRENT CAN BECONDUCTED FROM THE BATTERY SUPPORT, THROUGH THE FRONT BRAKE LINES TO THE FRAME.ON MOTORCYCLES WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKES (ABS) THIS MAY 1) CAUSE THE BRAKE FLUID TOINCREASE IN TEMPERATURE WHICH COULD IMPAIR FRONT BRAKE PERFORMANCE; AND 2)MELT A HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK CAUSING A LEAK WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. ONMOTORCYCLES WITHOUT ABS, DAMAGE TO THE CIRCUITRY IN THE ELECTRONIC ENGINECONTROL UNIT MAY OCCUR, CAUSING AN IRREGULAR-RUNNING ENGINE.
The fix
REMOVE THE POSITIVE TERMINAL EXTENSION AND ATTACH THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE CONNECTOR DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY TERMINAL WITH A BOLT.

Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
