Recall 95V045001

Trailer Hitches — Harley-davidson · reported 27 Mar 1995 · 768 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

THE WELDS USED TO HOLD THE MAIN FOLDING HINGE TO THE SIDE FRAME MEMBERS WERE EITHER OMITTED OR TEMPORARY TACK WELDS RATHER THAN COMPLETE WELDS WERE USED.

The risk

THE REAR HINGE CAN SEPARATE FROM THE REAR FRAME CAUSING THE FRAME TO CONTACT THE ROAD SURFACE WHILE THE TRAILER IS TOWED AND CARRYING A MOTORCYCLE.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WELD AND, IF NOT FULLY WELDED, IT WILL BE CLEANED, PREPARED, CORRECTLY WELDED, AND REPAINTED.
