Recall 96V053000

Service Brakes, Air — Western Star · reported 27 Mar 1996 · 12 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

THESE TRUCKS WERE NOT BUILT WITH INVERSION VALVES DUE TO A PROGRAMMING ERROR. THE INVERSION VALVE PROVIDES MODULATED SPRING BRAKE APPLICATION DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING WHEN THE "A" PORTION OF THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM HAS FAILED.

The risk

IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, THE BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD NOT WORK PROPERLY INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN INVERSION VALVE IN THESE VEHICLES.

SYSTEM: BRAKES; AIR SYSTEMS. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: STRAIGHT TRUCKS, TRUCK/FULL TRAILER, OR LOGGING TRUCK APPLICATIONS.NOTE: OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME, SHOULD CONTACT WESTERN STAR AT 1-604-860-3319. Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
