Recall 96V100000

Electrical System › Wiring › Interior/under Dash — Western Star · reported 17 Jun 1996 · 325 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM CAN INTERFERE WITH THE MAIN CAB DASH HARNESS WHICH PASSES BEHIND THE CENTER DASH SECTION. THE WIPER ARM CAN WEAR THROUGH ONE OR MORE OF THE WIRES IN THE HARNESS AND CAUSE A SHORT CIRCUIT.

The risk

IN ELECTRONIC ENGINES (CATERPILLAR ONLY) OR DDA ENGINES, THE ENGINE WOULD STOP. IF THE ENGINE WERE TO STOP SUDDENLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND MANEUVERING THROUGH TRAFFIC, THERE WOULD BE A POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

The fix

DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE MAIN CAB WIRING HARNESS ROUTING.

SYSTEM: ELECTRICAL; WIRING; HARNESS; UNDER DASH. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CONVENTIONAL TRUCKS AND TRUCK/TRACTORS. OWNER NOTIFICATION: OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN JUNE 28, 1996. Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
