What's wrong

THE REAR MOST AXLE OF THE TANDEM AXLE SET COULD HAVE INOPERABLE BRAKES ON ONE OR BOTH WHEELS BECAUSE THE BRAKE S-CAM WAS INCORRECTLY INSTALLED.

The risk

THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND REPAIR THE S-CAM ASSEMBLY IF FOUND REVERSED.

OWNER NOTIFICATION: OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER 1996. NOTE:OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT VOLVO GM HEAVY DUTY TRUCK AT 1-800-528-6586.ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-800-424-9393.
