What's wrong
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: ELECTRIC VEHICLES. THE PROGRAM LOGIC FOR THE MOTOR ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) CAN MISTAKENLY DETECT A FAILURE OF AN ELECTRICAL CURRENT SENSOR AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH. IF THIS OCCURS, THE ECU QUICKLY REDUCES VEHICLE SPEED IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN PROPER FEEDBACK CONTROL.
The risk
THIS CAN RESULT IN A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND UNEXPECTED DECELERATION THAT COULD CAUSE A REAR-END COLLISION.
The fix
DEALERS WILL UPGRADE THE ECU .
OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DECEMBER 10, 1998. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
