Steering › Hydraulic Power Assist System — Freightliner · reported 16 Aug 1999 · 1,182 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORHOME CHASSIS EQUIPPED WITH A SIDE MOUNT RADIATOR AND HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. THE FILTER GASKET FOR THE POWER STEERING HYDRAULIC FLUID CAN BLOW OUT DUE TO PRESSURE SPIKES IN THE SYSTEM.
The risk
THIS CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID AND AN EVENTUAL LOSS OF POWER ASSIST TO THE STEERING IF THE LEAK IS UNDETECTED.
The fix
DEALERS WILL RECONFIGURE THE POWER STEERING HYDRAULIC SYSTEM TO ELIMINATE THE PRESSURE SPIKES.
OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN FEBRUARY 3, 2000. Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
